St Giles hotel in Heathrow was an interesting project for us. The hotel had a new side extension constructed with an internal lift shaft running between the old and the new building. Two new floors were added on top of the existing building and it was constructed using steel beams. These steel sections forming the roof and walls as well as the new lift shaft, all had to be fire protected up to 120mins. The task was made that much more difficult as the top sections were 14 floors up and exposed to the weather. We had to keep detailed records of the number of coats each section had to make sure each steel section received the correct paint thickness. Product used was Jotun Steelmaster 120WB.
